Forever, Always, and Then Some

Chapter 54

In Sunnydale a few weeks later.

Buffy: I got the first check from the council. I wish we had thought about them sooner.

Willow: I know.

Buffy: I mean it is just a couple a hundred a month but it is better than nothing at all.

Willow: And add to that the money I am going to make with David’s company and we are looking pretty good.

Dawn: Hey, don’t forget me.

Buffy: Yes, I hope that your taking over my place at the Magic Box does not interfere with the school work.

Dawn: It won’t. It is two afternoons a week and all day Saturday. I can do it and I can buy all my own clothes and all.

Buffy: We will see.

Dawn: It was Angel’s idea. He thinks I need to be more responsible.

Buffy: We will see.

Dawn: You are a broken record.

Willow: Well I am excited. Buffy, when do you sign the new mortgage papers.

Buffy: I go over to the lawyer’s office tomorrow. I can’t believe the interest rate David got. Lowered the payment a lot.

Willow: He has really come through for us. What exactly did Angel do for him?

Buffy: Tell you later.

Dawn: When the kid is not around, right?

Buffy: Pretty much.

Willow: Well I should get the first prototype to test this week.

Buffy: What is it?

Willow: David didn’t say. He just said he picked me for this one specifically. I am actually excited.

In LA.

Angel Investigations.

David walks in.

Cordy: David, hello. How nice to see you.

David: Cordelia. You uh look uh nice. Is anyone else here?

Cordy: Just me and Fred.

David: Fred? I am not sure I have met him.

Cordy: Not him, her. Short for Winifred.

David: Oh.

Cordy: How can you help you?

David: Well, I actually want to do something for Angel. Does anyone here know anything about computers?

Cordy: That would be our Fred.

David: Can I talk to her?

Cordy: Fred, can you come here a second. David, this is Fred Burkle. Fred, this is David Nabbit.

Fred: Hi. Are you the David Nabbit that runs the software company?

David: Yes. Cordelia tells me you are the computer person here.

Fred: Uh I try, but I am not an expert or anything.

David: I don’t need an expert. Just someone who knows the basics. Let me tell you what I have in mind.

A few days later in Sunnydale.

Buffy answers a knock at the door.

Man: I have a delivery for Willow Rosenburg.

Buffy: Bring it in, I will get her.

As the man rolls in the boxes, Willow walks up.

Willow: What is this?

Man: It is the test model from David. He wants me to set it up and get you started. Where do you want it?

Willow: Buffy, it looks like he sent a whole computer. Dining room?

Buffy: Sure we never eat in there and if we do, we can move it, I guess.

Willow and the man set up the unit and he goes over the setup.

Man: We are setting up similar units at other test locations. Here is a list of the others in the test. Oh and David added a one at the bottom, he said it was for some sort of private test. He wants us to try it first.

Willow: Uh okay. Walk me through.

Soon they have the computer up and running.

Man: So you key the locator number in and it causes the other computer to send off a signal

Willow: Like a phone ringing?

Man: Pretty much. Ready to try. David is suppose to be at the other location now.

Willow: Oh okay. Lets try.

Moments later the computer connects.

David: Hello, nice to see you Willow.

Willow: Hello, David.

David: Well I see we have made a good connection. How is it on your end?

Willow: The picture is acceptional. The sound too. I don’t notice a lag at all.

David: That is our goal. To be able to high speed connect and avoid all most all lag time. So is Buffy home?

Willow: Uh yeah, she is playing with Conner I think.

David: Can you get her?

Willow: Sure. Hold on one sec.

In LA

Cordy: Do you want me to get Angel now?

David: Please.

Cordy walks upstairs.

David looks at the computer and sees Buffy, Conner, and Willow.

David: Hello Buffy. Would you mind sitting down?

Buffy: Okay. What is going on? I thought this was Willow’s project. I am at a total loss with computers.

David: Can you hold on one second.

Cordy and Angel walk across the lobby.

Angel: David, you need to see me?

David: Not me, her.

David points at the computer screen facing the wall.

Angel: A new computer?

Angel walks around and looks at Buffy and Conner.

Angel: What?

Buffy: Angel? What is going on?

Angel: Uh I have no idea. David?

David: It is our new prototype video phone. One here and one at the house.

Fred: Angel sit down. Talk to her.

Angel sits

Angel: Buffy, did you know about this?

Buffy: No, I was just dragged in here. You?

Angel: No. But I am not complaining.

Willow: Buffy, I will leave you alone for awhile. Want me to take Conner?

Buffy: No. He should be here too.

Willow walks the man to the door and he leaves.

David: Fred, do you think you and Cordy can handle it now.

Fred: I think so. Is fairly simple.

David: Just call that number if you have any questions or suggestions. This is a test, so we expect a lot of bugs will be found.

Cordy: I think Angel is to busy to thank you right now so I will. Thanks.

David: No problem. I just thought a father should be able to watch his son grow up.

Cordy: I agree. Those three have a rough row to hoe.

David: Bye.

Back to Angel and Buffy.

Angel: You feeling any better?

Buffy: Yes. The fact I have more time to sleep and don’t have to worry about finances as much has helped.

Angel: You still look a bit tired to me.

Buffy: I am fine. Hey let me try and show you something. If Conner will cooperate.

She turns Conner towards the computer camera and tickles his chin to get him to open his mouth. He laughs.

Buffy: Did you see it?

Angel: What?

Buffy: His tooth. His first tooth. Let me do it again.(she tickles him)

Angel: I saw it that time. I am missing so much.

Buffy: I guess David thought so too.

Angel: Yeah he left before I could talk to him.
