Forever, Always, and Then Some

Chapter 58

Buffy and Angel are snuggling in front of the fire at the mansion. Buffy runs her fingers over the cuts on his cheek.

Buffy: You look like you have been in a fight or something.

Angel: You should have seen my back a few months ago. Some woman left numerous claw marks.

Buffy: Poor baby. Maybe if you weren’t such an amazing lover, the woman wouldn’t have been so aggressive.

Angel: I can’t help myself, she brings out the best in me.

Angel pulls her tighter toward him and kisses her deeply. Their legs intertwine. Buffy pulls back.

Buffy: Angel, I know you are hurting. Maybe we should just go home.

Angel: No. I want to be here like this with you.

Buffy: No you don’t. I can tell.

Angel: What are you talking about? I am where I want to be doing exactly what I want to do.

Buffy: Angel, you are not into it. Your body tells me so.

Angel: Oh, is that it. I am not aroused and you think that means I don’t want to be with you.

Buffy: Pretty much so.

Angel: Well it has nothing to do with you and definitely nothing to do with Dru. It has more to do with the herbs that Willow suggested. She thought they might help me.

Buffy: Help you control your desires.

Angel: Something like that.

Buffy: You weren’t going to tell me?

Angel: I was, I just didn’t expect you to be so observant.

Buffy: As if. So tell me my dear husband, is it better this way?

Angel: Actually yes, I can enjoy holding and loving you without fear of getting excessively worked up.

Buffy: But still worked up?

Angel: Oh yeah. My whole body tingles when you are around.

Buffy: I know the feeling.

Angel: Now can we stop talking.

Buffy: Uhh

Angel shuts her response of with his mouth. They revel in the feel of each other.

Later

Buffy: It will be light soon, we need to head home.

Angel: I know. One more kiss?

Buffy: When we are in our own bed. Now come on the fire is almost out.

Buffy’s cell phone rings. Buffy clamors for it.

Buffy: Hello.

Cordy: Uh hey. I need Angel. Is he there?

Buffy hands the phone to Angel.

Angel: Hello.

Cordy: Shesh. Why have you not been answering your phone? I’ve been trying for hours.

Angel: My phone has not rang.

Angel reaches for his coat and finds no phone.

Angel: I think I lost it.

Cordy: Great. Wesley found something he wants to share with you. Where are you?

Angel: We are just about to head home. I will ring you on the computer when I get there.

Hang up.

Buffy and Angel are getting their boots on when Harmony comes in.

Harmony: Oh shit you are still here.

Harmony looks toward the door knowing sunrise is coming soon. She looks around at the dying fire and the blanket

Harmony: What are you two doing here? Making out? The slayer making out with a vampire. I can’t believe it. Wait till Willow and the rest of your little friends find out.

Buffy: I think they know. They pretty much got the idea at the wedding.

Harmony: Wedding? What wedding? Who got married?

Buffy: Angel, she is so stupid I can’t kill her. Will you?

Angel: Maybe later, I need to get home. Can you go find my phone?

Buffy: Sure. Hurry, I’ll see you there.

Angel runs out before the sun rises.

Harmony: I am not stupid. Now who got married?

Buffy: We did. Angel and I got married. Now I have to go get something, and get home to my husband and son. You can clean up here. But I will be back tonight and if I find you still in town, I will stake you.

Buffy walks out.

Harmony: Why can’t it ever go my way?

At the house.

Angel bursts in the door.

Dawn: Cutting it a little close.

Angel: Hey, what can I say. I live dangerously.

Willow walks up holding Conner.

Willow: Where is Buffy?

Angel: She went to find my phone. I lost it somewhere last night.

Angel reaches for Conner.

Angel: God he feels good.

Willow: You miss him a lot?

Angel: Sometimes more that Buffy. Please don’t tell her that.

Willow: We won’t. Uh Angel, Wesley keeps ringing in on the computer.

Angel: I know. Cordy called on Buffy’s phone and told us.

Willow: You lost yours?

Angel: I think we left it in the Carson Crypt.

Willow: Carson Crypt? What were you doing? Oh nevermind. Let me get Wesley.

Angel: Uh Willow, the herbs helped, thanks.

Willow: I’m glad. Hi Wesley, I got him.

Angel sits down with Conner.

Angel: Wes, what’s wrong.

Wesley: Wrong? Oh nothing wrong.

Angel: Then why the dire?

Wesley: Oh, well I have been trying to translate other sections of the prophecies of Aberjian. Ones in addition to the one about you. And I think I found something. Something about Conner.

Angel: Oh please not another prophecy about a creature of evil.

Wesley: No, no, not at all. The passage refers to a child born of two great warriors. I believe it is talking about Conner.

Angel: Well what does it say?

Wesley: It refers to a second child.

Angel: What? Two children?

Wesley: Not your two children. I have not finished the translations on the parents of the second but there is some reference to the second child being born to one possessed by I am not sure but I believe it refers to an animal. But what I have figured out is the two children will join forces and they will be more powerful than any warriors before them. They will be involved in the final battles.

Angel: And you think one of these children is Conner.

Wesley: Actually I do.

Angel: So you think Conner is destined to be some great warrior for good. Well that beats your other prophecies by a long shot.

Wesley: I don’t write them I just translate them.

Buffy walks in.

Buffy: Got the phone. Right where you thought. Oh hey Wesley. What’s the dire?

Wesley: Let Angel fill you in. I want to get back to the scrolls.

Sign off.

Buffy: Angel?

Angel: Oh Wesley just found a possible reference to Conner in the prophecies of Aberjian.

Buffy: Good or bad.

Angel: Good actually. It talks about the child of two warriors being a powerful warrior for good and involved in the final battles. Also speaks of another child but Wesley is unclear yet about the parents of that child. But the two children together will be even more powerful than us.

Buffy: You are kidding. He thinks Conner is destined to be a warrior for the PTB. Well it ain’t gonna happen. They have me and they have you, they can forget Conner. He is going to have a normal life.

Angel: Spoken like a mother.

Buffy: That’s what I am. Mother first, warrior second.

Angel: Where does wife and lover fit in there?

Buffy: Near the top, way near the top.

Angel: Well, let say we take our boy upstairs and spend some time with him.

Buffy: Willow has he eaten?

Willow: Yes, I think he may even go back to sleep for awhile. He had another bad night with the teeth.

Buffy: You should have called. You did not have to watch him when he is like that.

Willow: It is fine. He is fine. Just saying he will probably go to sleep soon. Did you two get any sleep?

Buffy: Sleep? Angel did we sleep?

Willow: I am leaving you two alone.

Buffy and Angel head to their room.

Angel: Why don’t you grab a shower and I will get him to sleep.

Buffy: Not arguing.

Buffy grabs clean clothes and heads for the shower. She lets the warm water cascade over her head. The events of the night tumble through her brain. From the battle, to the death of Dru and on to the Angel’s soft lips. She smiles in memory. The water washes away her worries.

Across the hall.

Angel: My boy was tired. I wonder how tired mommy is. No, I better not. It’s not like I can do anything. The herbs are working. It would be fun. But she might get scared or mad. I could ask. No, I better behave. Ah what the hell.
